Student rep gives her report
Josephine Steidinger, student representative to the Northwestern Lehigh School Board, presented her report to school directors at their March meeting.
She said spring sports began with 250 students practicing and trying out for baseball, softball, and track and field.
“The spring musical went off with no problems,” Steidinger said. “The students did an outstanding job and almost sold out the show on Sunday.
“Director Bill Mutimer does a phenomenal job with our students each and every year.
“This spring, the Drama Club will be running a show as a fundraiser. The show will be “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.”
Steidinger also reported the Science Olympiad Team placed second overall at regional competition and will compete in state competition at Juniata College at the end of April.
The Debate semifinals were hosted by Northwestern.
“Mrs. [Beth] Johnson did a great job organizing the event,” Steidinger said. “Students invited to the semifinals are Christian Parker, first speaker; Brandon Segan, second speaker; Evan Hufnagle, cross examiner; and Josie Steidinger, rebuttalist.”
Steidinger also noted the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Debate Team took a joint trip to Washington, D.C. and that Ann Way and her ninth grade Honors English class are working with a third-grade class from Northwestern Elementary.
This project allows third graders to dramatize a piece of literature and visualize the story though expression and actions.
“They will meet four or five times to work on this project and create a performance that will be filmed by the high school broadcasting class,” Steidinger said. “The story their performance will be based on is Dr. Suess’ “What Pet Should I Get?” and the high schoolers will complete a presentation based on their experiences with this project.”
In closing her report, Steidinger said the Key Club hosted a blood drive with more thab 100 donors participating for the first time in 10 years.
