Gary Alan Hilbert

Gary Alan Hilbert, 65, of Northampton, died March 11, 2016. He was the husband of Lynn (Johnson) Hilbert for 41 years.

Born in Fullerton, he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Isabelle M. (Moyer) Hilbert.

He was a Whitehall High School graduate.

He was a merit scholar and graduated from Lafayette College with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He continued his education at Lehigh University towards a master’s degree in electrical engineering.

He retired in February 2016 after 42 years with PPL, where he was a senior computer system analyst. He was a state licensed engineer.

He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northampton, for 41 years. He was on many committees, church council and was a financial secretary. He was a choir member for more than 30 years.

As a young adult, he played softball and was in a bowling league for PPL. He was a member and a treasurer of Northampton Area Food Bank. He was a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineering.

He developed his own computer consulting business called Computer Helpkey and was looking forward to spending more time to expand the business after his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” D. and her husband Barry Engler of Bethlehem, Megan C. and her husband Kevin Justice of Allentown and Sarah F. and her husband Peter Goode, also of Allentown; five grandchildren, Emilee, Justin, Catherine, Madelyn and Cora; a sister, Joanne Passaro of Walnutport; a brother, Donald and his wife Kathy of Quakertown; a niece; and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant brother, Wayne.

There will be a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a service 11 a.m., both March 17 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1904 Main St., Northampton, 18067.

Contributions may be made to the church, Northampton Area Food Bank or Heartland Hospice, all c/o the funeral home, 2119 Washington Ave., Northampton, 18067.

Arrangements were made by Schisler Funeral Home Inc.

The family would like to thank the staff at Whitehall Manor and Heartland Hospice for taking good care of Hilbert the past two years.
