It was a historic Saturday night for District 11 at the PIAA wrestling championships in Hershey, as seven wrestlers from D-11 came home with gold medals at the AAA finals.

Four Bethlehem wrestlers capped off a gold-filled night of champions, as Bethlehem Catholic’s Luke Karam (126), Joey Gould (132) and Mikey Labriola (170) won state titles for the Golden Hawks.

Liberty heavyweight Andrew Gunning closed the night and tournament with the Hurricanes first champion in 31 years.

Bethlehem Catholic also came away from the tournament with the team title, capturing 126.5 points, pacing themselves past second place Nazareth (90).

The seven champions tied a D-11 record from 1976.

Liberty finished sixth in the standings with 56 points, giving District 11 three teams in the top six.

Becahi had six medal winners on the weekend, including Niko Camacho (HWT, 4th), Zach Glenn (106, 5th) and Cole Karam (152, 6th).

Liberty’s KJ Fenstermacher (120, 3rd) and Luke Werner (113, 5th) joined Gunning on the medal stand, while Freedom’s Evan Callahan (220, 4th) was the Patriots only representative.
