Northwestern students run to raise funds for school

Northwestern Elementary students met in the gymnasium Feb. 1 to learn about the BoosterThon Roaring Fun Run in which they would participate.

At the assembly, the students learned the Big World Recess cheer they were to shout whenever they saw one of the representatives of Fun Run, Awesome Ari or All Star Ali. The fun run would feature a slow-mo lap, and an airplane and group dance laps.

As the assembly drew to a close, the students were challenged by the Fun Run ladies to receive a pledge from all 50 states.

Principal Maria Pulli said teachers would duct tape her to a wall if they met their goal.

Students then received a pledge book to solicit donations for fun run.

The fun run designed by Partners In Education was to help raise funds for field trips and the Fall Fun Festival.

During the nine day event students learned about building character through sports with daily lessons such as: Play with Humility, Ride with Confidence and Live with Curiosity.

The event was run by Big World Recess and to help the students learn about fitness, leadership and character building and was run through Fun Run at FunRun.com.

Each classroom at the school had a Pledge-O-Meter that offered fun rewards when they meet a goal.

Students received a NWE Roaring Fun Run T-shirt from Partners in Education and sponsored by New Tripoli Bank, Stone Ridge Landscaping and Country Doctor Veterinary Hospital and Rehabilitation Center as they ran to raise $10,000 for their school.

The T-shirt design was created by fifth grade student Carson Mesics.
