Town Watch names new president

The seven-time nationally recognized Coplay Town Watch (CTW) has held its first meeting under the leadership of the seventh president, Kimberly Fitzpatrick, in its 20-plus-year history.

Fitzpatrick said she plans to rebuild CTW.

At the meeting, she accepted the resignation of three-year secretary Carol Trinkle.

“We applaud her service to the CTW,” Fitzpatrick said.

She also appointed a vice president, James Danko, who is a longtime volunteer in Coplay.

In other business, the eight standing committees of CTW will continue their work.

CTW is enrolled in the 2016 National Association of Town Watch Annual National Night Out Against Crime event, planned for Aug. 2. Planning for the event is scheduled to begin next month.

Other events planned are the annual children’s bike derby, to be held in June, and the annual Coplay Community Days, held in late August.

Fitzpatrick expressed the need for additional volunteers and successful fundraisers. She appealed to members present to seek out volunteers among their neighbors and friends. Fundraising efforts so far included, in conjunction with American Club of Coplay Hoagie Shop, a recent hoagie sale. An additional sale will be March 15.

CTW is formulating a plan for a possible oldies dance over the summer. Fitzpatrick again stated in order to complete CTW’s goals, increased numbers of volunteers and fundraising must occur.

Fitzpatrick has a meeting set up with Coplay Police Chief Vince Genovese with a goal to increase police support of CTW.

She also plans to meet with the Coplay’s new mayor, Dean Molitoris. She said she wants an active mayor participating with CTW.

Fitzpatrick said she believes 2016 will be a successful year if the team coalesces and increases its numbers and finances to achieve its goals.
