Ellwood Schell
Ellwood Francis Schell, 95, formerly of Whitehall, died March 3, 3016, at Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Helen (Billie) Schell for 73 years.
Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Lillian Agnes (Ryder) and Ellwood Martin Schell.
He was a 1938 graduate of Allentown High School.
He was in the National Guard.
He was in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 213th Regimental Headquarters Coast Battery and the 5th and 7th Armies, including the 353rd Anti-Aircraft Searchlight Battalion in North Africa and Western Europe.
He was awarded seven Battle Stars and the Croix de Guerre.
He was a project manager for various Lehigh Valley architectural and civil engineering firms. He ran his construction company, Pagano & Schnell Inc. and Pace Corporation. After he retired, he provided construction inspection services to Coplay-Whitehall Sewer Authority.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, Fullerton, for which he built the parish hall.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Susan and her husband Edward Carrington of Bradenton, Fla., Dennis and his wife Margaret of Northampton, Thomas of Midland Park, N.J. and Theresa and her husband Randy Schmitz of North Wales; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Kristen, Stephen and Thomas Schmitz, Royce and Kathryn Carrington and Kendrick, Eric, Michael and Stephanie Schell; a sister, Peggy Love of Kansas City, Mo.; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Flueso; and a brother, Allen Schell.
There will be a visitation hour from noon to 1 p.m. in the St. Ann Chapel, followed by a funeral mass 1 p.m., both March 11 at Holy Family Manor, 1200 Spring St., Bethlehem, 18018.
