Charles T. Noonan

Charles T. Noonan, 91, of Lower Macungie Township, died Feb. 27, 2016, in Allentown. He was the husband of Constance Noonan. They were married for 70 years. Born in Ashland, Ky, he was a son of Arthur and Tina (Beam) Noonan.

He attended public schools in Ashland and studied at Harvard College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Harvard Law School.

In 1949, he came to Allentown to practice law; he would tell you that life and law are synonymous. His private practice was with some of his children, a grandchild and Michael Prokup as Noonan & Prokup (originally Donecker & Noonan).

He was a director of the former Merchants National Bank of Allentown and served numerous charitable organizations in Lehigh County, including the Junior Chamber of Commerce (receiving its Distinguished Service Award), the East Penn School District (as a member of the board for six years, being treasurer for one of those years and president for another) and Cedar Crest College (as an associate, trustee, then chairman; 2004 Associates Award winner with his wife).

In addition to a lifetime love of education and the arts, he enjoyed skiing, tennis, water skiing, music and reading.

He is survived by his wife; children, Thomas and his wife Linda, Susan, Karl, Jim and Todd and his wife Louisa Esser; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and brother, Roger and his wife Jenny Lou.

Contributions may be made in his memory to Cedar Crest College, 100 College Drive, Allentown, 18104.

Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
