MEMORIAL

Since last week’s edition of the Whitehall-Coplay Press, when a story appeared on the Whitehall Township veterans memorial committee’s efforts to launch a fundraising campaign, donations have picked up.

The response has been terrific, the committee reports, for the proposed veterans memorial at the Whitehall Township municipal ground on MacArthur Road,

The group hopes to raise $50,000-$60,000 for the memorial, which will pay tribute to all former veterans, men and women, who served in war or during peacetime.

Organizers hope to dedicate the memorial May 30, 2017, Memorial Day.

Kornfeind’s Market, Route 329, North Whitehall Township, just north of Egypt, will hold a fundraiser March 5 and 6. The committee will sell $5 coupons that entitle customers to receive a 20-percent discount on their purchase of groceries, meats and other items at the store on those days.

Coupons are available at Eberhardt Motors, Egypt; Kornfeind’s Market; Fullerton American Legion Post 367, Fullerton; Hokendauqua American Legion Post 7923, Hokendauqua; and Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, Egypt.
