Freedom High School diver, Maddie Young, took third place at the East Penn Conference Diving Meet on Feb. 13 at Parkland High School.
“I’m pretty happy with it. I started out kind of shaky, but it got better,” Young said.
The Patriot junior scored 408.90 points, and she cited her best dives as her front double pike, front 2 1/2, and inward 1 1/2. Her highest-scoring dives were her inward dive pike, forward 1 1/2 pike, and forward double pike.
Parkland divers, Chelsea German and Serena Johnson, placed first and second, respectively. German scored 427.40 points, and Johnson scored 414.05.
Freedom freshman, Leigha Evans, also competed at the meet, placing 11th.
Patriot diving coach Jeff Zettlemoyer said, “Leigha did very well for a first-time diver. All her dives were above fives.”
The District XI Diving Championships are scheduled for Feb. 27 at Emmaus High School.
Young said, “I have my list set. With the first few [dives], I have to make sure I do them with confidence and basically, try not to get too nervous.”
As Coach Zettlemoyer sees it, all Young needs to do is hit all of her dives.
