Freedom High School’s boys’ swim team celebrated Senior Night during its final meet of the regular season against Liberty last Thursday.
“I’ve been on the team all four years,” Patriot senior Cameron Bell said, “and as seniors went through other years, I thought, that today’s going to be mine someday.”
Despite a 99.5-70.5 victory for the Hurricanes, the Patriots had some successes of their own.
“We know Liberty is a powerhouse team, but I saw some underclassmen swim their best times,” Bell said.
Bell also swam his season’s best in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly.
In other individual events, Freedom’s Tyler Higgins won the 200 free in 1:52.18, and Al J Bell won the 200 IM in 2:09.17, also for the Patriots.
For Liberty, Jake Evert took first place in the 50 free in 23.71, Reid Rossi placed first in the 100 butterfly in 56.65, and Robert Negron won the 100 free in 47.48.
Higgins was a repeat winner in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.52, and Colin Burnette won the 100 backstroke in 58.66.
Nolan Vannata came in first place for Liberty in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.78.
In relays, the Hurricanes won the 200 medley, the 200 free, and the 400 free. Freedom placed second in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
“We went in with the attitude, it’s Senior Night, but we still tried our best,” Bell said.
