Samuel N. Sist Sr., 96, of Whitehall, died Feb. 5, 2016, at home. He was the husband of the late Mary (Petrisko) Sist.
Born in Tresckow, he was a son of the late Anthony and Carmella (Mastrull) Sist.
He was a 1938 graduate of West Hazelton High School.
He served in the U.S. Army and was in the U.S. Third Army, European Theatre of Operations, during World War II.
He was a spot welder with All-Steel Inc. until he retired in 1982.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Marietta and her husband Charles Fried of Macungie; two sons, Samuel Jr. and his wife Charmaine of Hazelton and Thomas and his wife, who was Sist’s caretaker, Carol, with whom he resided; grandchildren, Valerie and her husband Jesse Tarpay of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Nicholas and Mark Sist of Whitehall, Sierra and Tyler Sist of Hazelton, Taylor Sist of USMC Twenty-nine Palms, Calif., and Veronica Fried of Macungie; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by nine siblings, Mariano William Sist, Clementine Mascellino, Angelo Sist, Anna Panzarella, Theresa Fiore, and Michael, Joseph, Anthony and Donald Sist.
