Coplay Borough Council officially appointed Daniel Witczak of Acela Engineering Company as its borough engineer. The appointment was approved Jan. 12. Witczak took his appointment at the borough’s first meeting in February.
“We are a small engineering company and want to focus our resources on small municipalities,” Witczak said after the meeting.
Acela replaces Keystone Consulting Engineers, a firm that has been with the borough for a number of years.
Newly elected Councilman Mark Molitoris was instrumental in the selection.
“We were looking for someone that would be more responsive to our needs. As a small borough, we are a small part of a firm as big as Keystone,” he said.
The borough plans to evaluate the effectiveness of the decision.
“I have confidence that we made the right selection for our needs,” Councilman Charles Sodl said.
Witczak will work with council on several pending projects in the borough. The first major project in the borough is a reconstruction project along North Front Street between Keystone Alley and Chestnut Street.
“I will work on an orderly transition, so we can get the information we need to keep the projects on target,” Witczak said.
