Finn sets pool record

Liberty High School diver, Rachel Finn, broke Liberty’s pool record during the Hurricanes’ swim meet against Easton on Feb. 2 in which the Liberty girls were victorious 182-127.

“It’s really great, almost a relief,” Finn said.

The Hurricane senior had set her sights on the record earlier this year, which had stood since 2008 when it was set by Allentown Central Catholic’s Catherine Rose with 256.20 points.

“My friend, Delaney Davis, came over and told me, and I jumped on her,” Finn said.

Finn’s score was 264.60.

As Finn cried, Liberty diving coach, Jeff Zettlemoyer, held back tears.

“I knew right away. I knew she had at least a 262,” he said. “I was jumping too.”

Finn’s highest-scoring dives were her front dive with a half twist and her back one-and-a-half with a half twist. Her highest degree of difficulty dive was a two-and-a-half pike.

“Rachel is so hard-working, and she deserves everything she gets. She is easy to coach and a dedicated athlete,” said Zettlemoyer.

In the girls’ team’s first event of the day, which was also Senior Day, Lydia Csatari, Chloe Kobus, Kayla Drago, and Maggie Walters just missed first place in the 200 medley relay by .53 seconds.

Csatari said, “[Swimming first] is always a lot of pressure, but I think this is for the whole team, and the team is behind me, and I’m supporting them.”

Csatari is a senior and one of the Hurricane captains.

“I saw some of my best friends graduate when I was a freshman, and now [some freshmen] are saying I’ve only known you for a year. It’s crazy. I feel mixed emotions. It’s bittersweet,” she said.

Jocelyn Baker took first place in the 200 free, Walters won the 50 free and the 100 free, and Kay Wetmore placed first in the 500 free.

Baker, Erin Wetmore, Kobus, and Drago ended the meet with a convincing victory in the 400 free relay.
