Boys defeat Easton

Liberty’s boys’ swim team won its meet on Senior Day against Easton by a comfortable 200-108 score last week at Liberty.

Alexis Calderon, Christopher Chambers, Reid Rossi, and Anthony Delcorso opened the boys’ meet with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Calderon said, “I just went out and swam as hard as I could. I looked over and saw it was close and pushed harder, and at the end, it worked out.”

Robert Negron took first place in the 200 free, Chase Ledger won the 200 IM, and Brice Kessler placed first in the 50 free.

Kessler said, “I really just attacked it. The 50 free is head-down sprinting. If you make one mistake, there goes the race.”

Kessler has been more focused on his 100 free and 200 free this season.

“I’m getting a lot more front-end speed, making sure I’m pacing myself correctly, and getting a nice kick going,” he said.

Kellen Rogers won the diving event for the Hurricanes with 174.50 points.

Rossi took first place in the 100 butterfly, and Chambers was first in the 100 free.

Negron, John Buttillo, DelCorso, and Nolan Vannata teamed up to win the 200 free relay.

The Hurricanes had a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke with Rossi, Negron, and Calderon, respectively, and Chambers won the 100 breaststroke.

In the final event of the boys’ meet, Rossi, Vannata, Buttillo, and Kessler took first place in the 400 free relay.

“I love to anchor,” said Kessler. “I’m competitive, so if I see someone ahead of me, I work harder. I like that pressure on me, to go all out.”
