Samuel Hughes, 77, of Whitehall, died Jan 21, 2016, after a long illness, at Cooper Hospital, Camden, N.J. He was the husband of Linda Hughes.
Born in Hanover, he was a son of the late David and Pansy (Green) Hughes.
He was a 1956 graduate of Hanover High School.
He was in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
He was in the Pennsylvania State Police from 1965 until 1993. He was a firearms instructor and was the 1983 State Police Olympics Firearms Champion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Colton of Whitehall; a daughter, Samantha and her husband Donald Biegley of Bath; two sisters, Daisy Kump and Betty Jo Gastley of Hanover; a brother, Larry Hughes of New Oxford; an uncle, Jay Hughes of Dover; nieces; and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Leland and Manuel; and a sister, Anna.
Arrangements were made by Gilbert Funeral Home Inc., Whitehall.
