Edward Yaple, 85, of Egypt, died Jan. 25, 2016, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was the husband of Helen (Lubenetsky) Yaple for 58 years.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Roland and Ethel (Siegfried) Yaple.
He was a 1953 graduate of Syracuse University where he was co-captain of the football team and played fullback in the 1953 Orange Bowl. In May 2011, he was inducted in to the National Football College Hall of Fame.
He played professional football in Canada for the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was an industrial analyst for Bethlehem Steel Corporation until he retired in 1985.
He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Whitehall.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 and was on the post’s funeral honor guard. He belonged to the Egypt V.F.W. Post 7293.
He was a life member of Northampton Fire Company and Lappawinzo Fish & Game, Northampton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother-in-law, Robert Geist of Bethlehem; a sister-in-law, Joanne Yaple of Kutztown; and nieces and nephews, of whom Barb Zydyk and Jean Rasley and their families were like daughters.
He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Geist; and a brother, Roland Yaple.
