Robert E. Reinhard
Robert E. “Bob” Reinhard, 93, of Macungie, formerly of Allentown died Jan. 18, 2016, in the Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was the husband of Rosemary J. (Stofko) Reinhard. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary Aug. 12, 2015. Born in Spring City, he was the son of the late Robert R. and Myrtle (Yeager) Reinhard.
He was a graduate of Girard College in 1939 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Franklin and Marshall College in 1943.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Corps in World War II as a 1st Lieutenant Radar-Navigation Instructor and survived a B29 crash by using a parachute.
He founded Reinhard Insurance Agency in 1950 and operated it until his retirement in 1987. He earned the CPCU Professional Insurance designation and for many years was a name of Lloyds of London Underwriting Group C.T. Bowring. He served on insurance boards for the city of Allentown, East Penn School District and the borough of Emmaus.
He had served as president of the Allentown Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Allentown YMCA Board of Directors, president of the Cotillion Dance Club and was a member of Brookside Country Club and a life member of the Lehigh County Historical Society.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown.
He was an ardent and active outdoorsman, having hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. He backpacked in Yellowstone, Zion, Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Grand Teton national parks. Abroad he hiked in the Pyrenees of Spain, Bernese Alps of Switzerland, to Nepal’s Mt. Everest Base Camp and the High Points of the British Isles (Ben Nevis) Yugoslavia (Mt.Triglav), Japan (Mt. Fujiyama), Czechoslovakia (Mt. Gerlach) and Africa (Mt. Kilimanjaro). He re-enacted the Indian Walking Purchase, completed the J.F. Kennedy Hike/Run of 50 miles in 12 hours and hiked to the high points of 44 states.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Robert E., Jr., of Wilkes-Barre, Richard and his wife Debbie, of Emmaus; stepchildren, Patrice and her husband Dan Lauer, of Stroudsburg, Thomas Mulqueen and his wife Cheryl, of Downingtown, Michael Mulqueen, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Marion Hull, of Cornwall, Jean Labosh, of Oaks; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.
