Liberty and Freedom both hit the road over the weekend and came home with positive results from the wrestling mat as they participated in their final individual tournaments before the postseason.
Liberty’s KJ Fenstermacher (126) and Andrew Gunning (HWT) both came home with titles from the Escape the Rock tournament at Council Rock South.
Fenstermacher scored a 5-3 decision over Lucas Miller of Boyertown, while Gunning topped Don Bosco Prep’s Eric Chakonis 3-1. The battle was a matchup between the top ranked heavyweights in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Luke Werner took third at 113 for the Hurricanes to round out the trio of medalists on the weekend, as Liberty finished eighth in the team standings.
Freedom also finished eighth in the team standings at the War on the Shore tournament in Ocean City, Md.
Evan Callahan (220) was the only Patriot to reach the finals, but settled for silver, as Brandon Hall’s group medaled seven wrestlers in total.
Ryan DeLoach (182, 3rd), Jake Rugis (195, 4th), Thomas Bonilla (152, 5th), Dylan Brown (126, 6th), Ben Huber (120, 6th) and Mario McIntyre (HWT, 7th) all placed for the Patriots as well.
The Pates (8-6) have three dual meets this week, starting with Wednesday’s bout against Emmaus (11-4), followed by Northampton (5-5) on Thursday and Saturday night’s home tilt against Liberty (8-2).
The Hurricanes take on Central Catholic (1-11) and Easton (10-2) today and tomorrow before Saturday’s rivalry match.
