Freedom diver, Madison Young, took fourth place at the East Penn Conference Diving Meet on Saturday at Emmaus High School.

“I was pretty happy with that,” Young said.

The Patriot senior had 380.55 points, scoring highest on her back dive and her forward one-and-a-half pike.

“I’ve been doing them a long time. They’re pretty easy dives for me,” said Young.

Freedom/Liberty diving coach Jeff Zettlemoyer was particularly pleased with Young’s reverse one-and-a-half.

“Reverse is not my best category, and it’s one of my newer dives too. If you go too early, it’s going to be bad. I kind of did it well in the meet,” Young said.

Young missed only one dive, a front two-and-a-half with a 2.4 degree of difficulty, which put her 2.40 points behind third place.

“I think I got a little nervous, and I didn’t get a good hurdle off the board, so it was hard to get around. It’s a little newer dive for me,” she said.

Also competing from Freedom was Leigha Evans, who placed 14th with 218.35 points. Zettlemoyer said her inward dive was her best.

Rachel Finn placed eighth for Liberty with 316.50 points.

Zettlemoyer said, “Rachel nailed her inward one-and-a-half and her reverse dive straight. Her reverse dive straight has a low degree of difficulty, but it’s a very good dive for her.”

Finn missed only her last dive, a reverse double, which put her 3.25 points behind seventh place.

Also for Liberty, Kellen Rogers placed ninth with 246.50 points.

“His best were his back one somersault straight, his inward dive tuck, and his inward one tuck,” said Zettlemoyer. “I was very happy with my beginning divers. They came with no experience, and now they have 11 dives.”
