William Franklin Derhammer
William Franklin Derhammer, 90, of Whitehall, died Dec. 27, 2015. He was the husband of Dorothy (Dot) G. (Wenner) Derhammer for 68 years.
Born in Seiple Station, he was a son of the late Harry and Mabel E. (Hausman) Derhammer.
He was a 1943 graduate of Whitehall High School.
He was in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. New York, which bombed the shores of Iwo Jima and aboard the U.S.S. Dixie in Japan during the Korean War.
He worked at the former Bethlehem Steel and then was a Whitehall Township police sergeant. He was in the security force of Western Electric until he retired in 1990.
He was a 57-year member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall.
He was a 10-year post commander of Fullerton American Legion Post #367 and frequently served in the honor guard. He was a volunteer fireman for Fullerton Fire Company. He was a member of Lehigh Consistory, Porter Lodge #248 Free and Accepted Masons, and the Rajah Shrine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, William A. and his wife Fran, Randy J. and his wife Debbie, Gary R. and his wife Lorraine, and Chris R. and his partner Phil Agentis; a daughter, Karen J. and her husband John L. Kearney; 13 grandchildren, Michael, Jenna, Lisa, Lucus, Levi, Dawn, Halle, Ethan, Kelly, Ryan, Troy, Jasmine and Christopher; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul and his wife Betty; and a sister, Pauline Evans.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Harry, Richard and Roy; a sister, Doris Fenstermacher; and two children, Cynthia, who died in infancy; and a son, Keith James.
