John E. Herbein, 86, of Emmaus, died Dec. 31, 2015, in his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Marlene L. (Alderfer) Herbein. Born in Shoemakersville, he was the son of the late John H. and Anna E. (Geiger) Herbein.
He owned and operated Herbein’s Garden Center for 35 years.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Union Church, Macungie.
He was a member of Lehigh Lodge #326 F&AM, Consistory, Rajah Temple, and was a rodsman for Groundhog Lodge #13.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Timothy J., of Kutztown and Johnathan M. and Jess Baatz, of Emmaus; daughter, Judy C. Buss, of Emmaus; stepsons, Brian J. Miller and his wife Lisa, of Emmaus and Blair D. Miller and his wife Jen, of Bethlehem; brother, Richard W., of Laureldale; grandchildren, Hilary, Eric and his wife Tara, Cody and Jeremiah; step-grandchildren, Austin, Owen and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Skyler, Jordan and Micah. He was predeceased by sisters, Virginia L. Hamm and Melba M. Galan.
Contributions may be made to the church.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 6 in St. Peter’s Union Church, 7863 St. Peter’s Road, Macungie, 18062. A viewing will be held 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
