2 newcomers join council

Just prior to Coplay Borough’s reorganization meeting Jan. 4, Magisterial District Judge Robert Halal swore in three newly elected council members. Councilman David Royer was reelected to his position, but Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer and Councilman Mark Molitoris never served on council.

Once the new members were sworn in, Mayor Joseph Bundra called the reorganization meeting to order and began the nominating process. Louis Bodish was elected to continue as president of council, and David Royer will continue as vice president.

After Bodish was elected president, Bundra left the meeting.

Council elected Carl Luckenbach as council pro-tem.

Council reappointed Sandra Gyecsek as borough secretary and treasurer.

Council moved to retain James Preston as its solicitor, reappointed Vincent Genovese as police chief, reappointed Matthew Buskaritz as fire chief and had Ronald Helman serve as code enforcement officer.

The meeting schedule for 2016 is the same as it has been in previous years. Workshop meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month, and the regular meeting is on the second Tuesday.

Council held garbage rates for 2016 at a $270 rate. Seniors are given a $40 discount. There is a 10-percent discount if the fee is paid by March 31.

Business rates vary depending on the amount of garbage that is collected.
