Liberty sweeps ESN
Liberty’s swim team all but swept East Stroudsburg North in a recent meet when the Hurricane boys won 125-45, losing only in the 200 free relay, and the Hurricane girls won 134-36.
Paige McCloskey, Julia McCarthy, Sabrina Krotzer, and Kayla Drago opened the meet with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.32. Jase Smith, Christopher Chambers, Reid Rossi, and Robert Negron followed up with a victory in the same event in 1:43.45.
Jocelyn Baker and Nolan Vanatta won the 200 free, Chloe Kobus and Reid Rossi won the 200 IM, and Julia McCarthy and Jase Smith won the 50 free.
Krotzer and Negron took first place in the 100 butterfly, and Drago and Brice Kessler placed first in the 100 free.
Shannon Hogan, one of Liberty’s captains, also swam the 100 free and placed second before winning first place one week later.
“I don’t know if it’s because we weren’t at home or I wasn’t focused, but I’m definitely seeing a difference, and this is only the third meet. My personal race wasn’t the best, but I came back [against Whitehall],” Hogan said.
Kay Wetmore and Rossi won the 500 free, and Rachel Finn, Baker, McCarthy, and Drago took first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.89.
McCloskey and Negron won the 100 backstroke, and Natalie Richardson and Chambers placed first in the 100 breaststroke.
The Hurricanes ended the meet with Wetmore, Lehr, Krotzer, and Kendra Smith winning the 400 free relay for the girls with a time of 3:59.28, and Kessler, Omar Mohamed, John Buttillo, and Vanatta winning the 400 free relay for the boys with a time of 3:33.47.
After the Christmas break, the Hurricanes were back in the pool on New Year’s Eve for one hundred 100’s.
Hogan explained, “It’s getting yardage in, some technique, having fun, and seeing what our ability is.”
