Ray Herring, 76, of Wescosville, died Oct. 26, 2015, in his home of natural causes. He was the husband of the late Diane (Day/Mest) Herring who died in 2007 and the late JoAnne (Gurely) Herring who died in 2009. He was the son of the late Cathrine (Stufllet) Mengal.
He spent more than 15 years serving his country in the Army from 1957 to 1972 and more than 20 years in the National Guard. He was a Vietnam veteran and a SSG/E6 at his retirement in the late 1990s.
From the Army, to the big rigs or the pigeon runs; trucking of any kind was his lifelong passion as were his beloved cats.
He is survived by a daughter, Toni and her husband Dale Zuberka; stepsons, Nelson Mest and his wife Railyn; Jason Mest and his friend Jodi; stepdaughter, Brenee Schuler; brothers, Milton Mengal and his wife Connie and Richard Mengal and his wife Barbara; sisters, Ruth Ann and her husband Miguel, Edith and her husband Carl; Rose and Kimmy; five granddaughters; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wives; two sisters, Nancy and Ardel and daughter, Vickee Campbell who died Aug. 30, 2015.
Contributions will be accepted at the hall but are not necessary.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 9, 2016 at the Scenic Orchards Hall, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie. All are welcome to pay their last respects and to celebrate the lives of Ray and his daughter, Vickee. Light refreshments will be provided and a small covered dish will be appreciated.
