Bethlehem Catholic graduate Tom McLoughlin (Susquehanna University) recently capped off his collegiate football career by playing in the sixth annual National Bowl Game at Florida International University’s Ocean Bank Field in Miami on December 6.
McLoughlin and teammate Jim Barry, both seniors, were part of the White team’s defensive efforts, helping to beat the Blue team 16-9.
The National Bowl Game is an annual postseason college football all-star game consisting of top players from non-football bowl subdivision (FBS) schools. The National Bowl Game showcases All-American and All-Conference seniors representing more than 400 Division II, III and FCS schools, allowing players below D1/FBS level the opportunity to play in front of NFL and CFL scouts.
McLoughlin, playing strong safety, registered a first half interception to help end a Blue team drive.
As a three-year starter for the Crusaders, he finished the regular season with 61 tackles (47 solo), 6.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
The Crusaders finished 5-5 this season, registering rivalry victories over Lycoming and Juniata.
