LHS girls beat Zephs

Liberty’s girls’ swim team remained undefeated in its 218-87 victory over Whitehall last Tuesday.

Liberty captain, Kayla Drago, said, “Last year, halfway through [the meet with Whitehall] we were neck and neck. Before this meet, [Coach] Reik [Foust] and the captains talked about never underestimating your opponent. They might not be as large, but they can still be strong.”

The Hurricanes won all events except the 200 free relay, placing second by only .33 seconds.

Individual event winners for the Liberty girls were Anna Lehr in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.43, Julia McCarthy in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.53, and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.50, and Sabrina Krotzer in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.65.

Jocelyn Baker placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:30.16, Shannon Hogan won the 100 free with a time of 58.27, and Drago won the 50 free with a time of 26.02.

Drago said, “Everything has to be right on point [in the 50 free]. There’s no room for little slip-ups. The first 25 took a little to get going, but the second 25 was better than the first.”

Drago also won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.74.

“Last year, I swam sprint events and incorporated the fly back in,” said Drago. “I’m excited. I’m glad to be swimming the fly again.”

Liberty senior, Rachell Finn, won the diving event with 217.10 points.

Paige McCloskey, McCarthy, Krotzer, and Drago teamed up to win the 200 medley relay, and Lehr, McCarthy, Baker, and Drago won the 400 free relay.
