Hurricanes win EPC title

Liberty High School’s cheerleaders were crowned East Penn Conference champions at the EPC Cheer Championships last Wednesday at Easton Area Middle School.

Liberty captain, Alyssa Reese, said, “We were all freaked out, and then I realized we won. We texted Robi right away, and he was ecstatic.”

Robi Hanley is the Hurricanes’ coach, who was present for Liberty’s routine, but had to leave early due to a previous engagement.

Prior to the awards presentation, Reese said, “I think we did really well. For some of us, it was our first time. For some of us, we’ve been doing this our whole lives. We were giving our all. It took so much time and energy, and we have all the skills.”

The Hurricanes performed second, after Easton, which placed fourth.

“I was happy with the line-up, so we can relax now and just see what happens. The stunts in the music section all hit, and that’s the hardest part. I think we did well. We’ll see what the judges say,” said Reese.

The Hurricanes won the Competitive Spirit Division over 15 other high school cheerleading squads.

“We definitely want to clean up some things, and come back better for districts,” Reese said.
