Hope, hygiene in a box

On a recent Saturday, 700 volunteers, over half from the Sands Bethlehem Casino and the rest from community organizations, gathered in the shadows of the former Bethlehem Steel Machine Shop No. 2 to assemble personal hygiene kits as part of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation and Clean the World partnership to deliver much needed supplies to the needy. The local initiative aimed to assemble 25,000 of the kits for distribution to area agencies.

“We’re happy to be able to contribute to the community,” said Mickey Trageser, Sands Bethlehem vice president of human resources.

Each kit contained a washcloth, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, lotion, conditioner and body wash. Kits were packed in cartons of 50 for shipment by four shifts of volunteers, who sported event T-shirts and earned raffle prizes donated by the Sands and area businesses.

Las Vegas Sands Corporation’s global hygiene partnership with social enterprise organization Clean the World is part of the Sands’ global corporate citizenship program, ‘Sands Cares.’ The 24-hour event hoped to assemble 200,000 kits worldwide.

Sands table game dealers Sandra Forgione and Xiaomei Nalbone were charged with packing 50 kits into each carton. Copyright -
