John M. Kern, 86, of Allentown, died Oct. 14, 2015, at Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was the husband of Eleanor “Ellie” (Taves) Kern. They celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in June. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Arthur and Katherine (Mell) Kern.

He was a crane operator for Bethlehem Steel and plumber for Lehigh County and Fruwirth Plumbing. After retiring he drove a school bus for the Parkland School District and PInebrook Family Services.

He was a member of Central Assembly of God, Bethlehem. He was a born again Christian devoted to serving the Lord.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife; sons, David, John, Dennis and Glen, Warren Bender Jr. and Jeff Bender; daughters, Linda Degler, Donna Grim, Andrea Nuben, Linda, Jae-Lynn Burton and Carissa Burton; brothers, George and Robert; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; former wife, Betty J. Kern.

Contributions may be sent to the funeral home to help with expenses. Arrangements were made by the Trexler Funeral Home, Allentown.
