David O. Miller

David O. Miller, 88, of Emmaus, died Oct. 12, 2015, at home. He was the husband of Vera (Fisher) Miller, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage. Born in Womelsdorf, he was the son of the late Rev. Harry P. and Bertha (Decker) Miller.

He was the elementary art supervisor in the East Penn School District for 33 years.

He started his teaching career in Allentown at the South Mountain Junior High School for three years and then came to the East Penn School District. He truly loved working with children.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kutztown University. He was an honorary member of Kappa Delta Phi and an honorary lifetime member of the Emmaus Lions Club.

Some of his murals can be seen in the stairwells and halls of the Emmaus High School, many others in the Macungie Elementary School and another in Council Chambers in Emmaus Borough Hall and also social halls.

He served two years in the military entering the fall of 1945 after high school and spent nine months in Japan and the rest of his term back in the States.

He loved to play golf and a perfect day was to be on the course by 7 a.m. with his golfing buddies and a good cigar.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Lizbeth and her husband John Pink, of Columbia, S.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Mark and five brothers and two sisters.

Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
