Emma Conrey of Germansville, winner of a high school leadership award presented by Widener University and NBC 10, recently completed a day-long high school leadership workshop offered by the Oskin Leadership Institute at Widener University.
Conrey, a senior at Northwestern Lehigh High School, was among 42 high school leadership award winners who participated in the free workshop on Sept. 19 at Widener.
During the workshop, students shared their own leadership experiences, and learned about the three major competencies of leadership: leading self, leading others, and leading change.
“As high school leadership award winners, these students have already demonstrated their abilities as leaders in their schools and communities,” said Arthur Schwartz, executive director of the Oskin Leadership Institute. “This workshop gives them the opportunity to reflect on those leadership experiences and learn how they relate to the master competencies of effective leadership.
For many students, this is the first time they have been engaged in serious reflection about their own leadership abilities.”
Winners of the leadership awards are recognized each year at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
They are also offered the free leadership workshop at Widener, and those who enroll at the university receive a $20,000 scholarship.
The mission of the Oskin Leadership Institute is to perpetuate the university’s long and noble tradition of inspiring students to be strategic leaders and responsible citizens who possess the character, courage and competencies to affect positive change throughout the world.
