Drug bust

Police arrested a 17-year-old male at Liberty HS Sept. 17 after teachers allegedly discovered a large quantity of narcotics in his backpack.

The arrest was made shortly before noon.

The Morning Call reports Police Chief Mark DiLuzio and Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy agree the quantity - 285 packets of heroin and 43 bags of cocaine, and other paraphernalia altogether worth more than $3,000 - indicate transportation on another person’s behalf rather than some sale happening in the school.

As the investigation continues, the suspect is charged with possession of controlled substances, paraphernalia, and intent to deliver. A recent transfer to the school, he also faces near-certain expulsion, Roy said.
