George R. Young Sr., 82, of North Catasauqua, died Aug. 30, 2015, in his residence. He was the husband of Alma (Strouse) Young for 66 years.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Wilmer and Beatrice (Wilson) Young.
He was in the National Guard for more than seven years.
He was a rigger and master welder for Bethlehem Steel Corporation for more than 40 years and was a guard for Graterford Prison for 10 years until he retired. He was a carpenter and electrician and helped to build the first roller coaster installed in Dorney Park.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George R. Jr.; a brother, John J. Young; five grandchildren, Scott and Brock Dias, Mark Young, Nicole Strunk and Cody Young; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Autumn, Raven, Talon and Ivy Dias and Allen Young; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Delores M. Dias; four sisters; and one brother.
There will be a viewing 10-11 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., both Sept. 3 at the funeral home, 234 Walnut St. Catasauqua, 18032.
