Arlene E. Kaslik

Arlene E. (Desch) Kaslik, 90, a longtime resident of Pocono Lake, formerly of Macungie, died after a long illness July 21, 2015, at Kutztown Manor. She was the wife of the late Matthew F. Kaslik who died in 1987. They were married for 36 years. Born in Macungie, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Laura (Christman) Desch.

She attended Salem United Church of Christ, Pocono Pines, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She was a graduate of Kutztown State Teacher's College. She was a homemaker, and a librarian at Muhlenberg College, Freedom High School, Bethlehem and Pocono Mountain High School, Swiftwater.

As an extension of her librarian skills, she had a passion for repairing old books and old family Bibles in particular. She was equally passionate about cooking Pennsylvania Dutch comfort foods (though unhappy if reminded of her Pennsylvania Dutch accent), sewing, and knitting and was constantly making quilts for her beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by sons, Robert, of Tabernash, Colo.; Peter, of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and James, of Tempe, Ariz.; daughter, Julia Engle, of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandsons and two granddaughters.

Contributions may be made to Salem U.C.C., 108 Church St., P.O. Box 1047, Pocono Pines, 18350-1047.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements were made by the Trexler Funeral Home, Allentown.
