Student Rachel Landes wins TPA altruism award

Northwestern Lehigh High School senior Rachel Landes was selected to receive the Travelers Protective Association of America's Altruism Award for her leadership qualities and dedication to helping others in both her school and in the community.

Landes is a volunteer at her local church and an assistant teacher at her church's Sunday School instruction.

Landes volunteers as a tutor at school and serves as the head coach for the fourth grade field hockey team.

Landes offers her time to helping others and shows a constant selfless concern for the well-being of others, which is what the TPA award honors in their recipients.

The staff at Northwestern determined that Landes serves as an example of altruism for her peers and in the community.

The TPA Post L in the Lehigh Valley is a National non-profit organization and the largest post of the Pennsylvania division.

Northwestern Lehigh High School Counselor David Combs spoke of Landes' achievements and dedication to her community, and awarded her the TPA Award.

In addition, Judge Stephen Baratta of Northampton County was there to thank Landes for her community service and personal achievements.

Landes plans on furthering her education in math education study and has shown this interest and passion as a tutor for others in need of help in this area.
