William A. Shipe

William A. Shipe, 92, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and formerly of Catasauqua, died June 20, 2015, in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. He was the husband of Gloria C. (Heimbach) Shipe for 55 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late William A. Sr. and Ella (Stecker) Shipe.

He was in the U.S. Marine Corps, 2nd Division, during World War II, for which his unit received the Presidential Unit Citation.

He worked for the former G.A.F. and the former Tarkett for 35 years until he retired in 1979. He worked for the Allentown Police Department and was a part-time deputy chief for the Blum Detective Agency, Bethlehem, for 23 years, until he retired in 1978.

He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Catasauqua.

He was a past member of the Lehigh Valley Detachment of Marines and National Detective and Special Police Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post 215, Catasauqua, and the Fraternal Order of Police, Bethlehem Star Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Charles C. and his wife Karen Kerstetter of Lansdale, Dennis J. and his wife Bonnie Kerstetter of Catasauqua, William A. and his wife Marie Shipe of Hellertown, and Glenn W. Shipe of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters; Nancy A. Shipe of Emmaus and Sandra L. and her husband Dwight Steidel of Nazareth; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Hilda and Julia.

A memorial service with military graveside honors at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown, will be announced at a future date.
