Letters: Supports fair school funding formula

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Bethlehem Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), I am writing to show our members' collective support for a fair and equitable funding formula for public schools in Pennsylvania as reflected in the goals of The Campaign for Fair Education Funding (a coalition of more than 50 organizations from across Pennsylvania) and outlined in the education budget proposed by Governor Wolf.

In addition, AAUW strongly supports the proposed cyber charter school funding reform in the budget that would save school districts $160 million in taxpayer money each year state-wide and allow them to reinvest this money into school districts to restore programs and services that have been cut in recent years.

Our children are our future, and as been noted time and time again, the best investment a society can make is in their education. America decided many years ago that universal public education was the key to maintaining our democracy, and we must restore the means to educate them equitably in Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,

Ruth Skoglund, president
