Althea K. Smith

Althea K. Smith, 87, formerly of Macungie, died June 19, 2015, in Devon House. She was the wife of the late William D. Smith. Born in Salisbury Township, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ellen (Fenstermaker) Schmick.

She worked for Allen Organ as a secretary, East Penn School District for 10 years, first as a library aide and then a secretary and Sammons Communications for 10 years as a clerk.

She was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church and a member of its Ladies Aid.

She was a member of the Jolly Grandmas, a musical group made up of Joyce Schmick on Hawaiian guitar, Violet Hunsberger as emcee and Althea on keyboard. They visited nursing homes, non-profit organizations, etc. for the enjoyment of performing.

She is survived by sons, William R., of Bethlehem and Donald S. and his wife Linda, of Kutztown; daughters, Ann L., of Bethlehem and Dolores K. and her husband Scott Ziegenfus, of Palmerton; daughter-in-law, Joan, of Macungie; brother, Richard Schmick, of Center Valley; sister-in-law, Helen Schmick, of Emmaus; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Dale F. and a granddaughter, Laurel.

Contributions may be made to the church.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. June 24 in Jerusalem Westsern Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown, 18103. A viewing will be held 10 to 11 a.m. June 24 in the church. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
