L. MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
A special proclamation was presented to Eagle Scout James R. Phelan for constructing a wooden crib at Quarry Park at the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting June 4.
The three-sided structure is designed to protect the infield mix of clay and sand. Phelan thanked everyone including Lee Lichtenwalner, township project manager.
The proposed Trexler Business Center to be located on Hamilton Boulevard near Texas Roadhouse is a topic of discussion between the board and David Jaindl.
The original design has been slightly modified. Jaindl would like action on this proposal so steps can be made to begin this project.
The board wants to follow procedures and is asking for time to go through the proper channels. A motion was not made to get this project started. It was proposed action be taken to ensure this will be before the board at the next board meeting.
A resident expressed concern about the proposed softball fields at Wild Cherry Park. The proposal will be discussed at the public works meeting. Safety concerns will also be considered. Suggestions to reposition the fields will be discussed as well as parking limitations.
The Morning Call Circulation Manager Paul Fernandez met with township officials over the distribution of newspapers not purchased. Fernandez has made himself available for any distribution concerns.
There is ongoing communication over the deer issue around Orchard Road. Suggestions are being made and discussed as to the feasibility of proposed action.
Lehigh County Authority has issued a well monitoring report. It was suggested the report be interpreted by a professional.
There has been communication with Penn State about mosquito control. Information on how to control the insects is being investigated.
Emmaus High School Athletic Director Dennis Ramella made the school's yearly request to use the Church Lane baseball fields and Camp Olympic. This was approved.
Hamilton Crossings construction vehicles have been leaving dirt on the area roads. Crews were reminded to sweep the dirt off the roadways.
The bike lanes on Hamilton Boulevard from Kressler Road to Weiler's Road were approved with Commissioner Brian Higgins voting against them. Higgins said he does not like to encourage bike traffic on this road.
The swimming pool has been open on the weekends with an increase in membership.
The pump park will begin construction in July.
The budget and finance committee has approved Charitable 501C3 donations. Presently donations can be made for the proposed dog park.
The budget and finance committee also approved the 2015 audit plan.
Commissioners approved for the pool and Lower Macungie Youth Association to be audited this year. Commissioner Ron Beitler voted against this.
