Dorothy J. Shideman

Dorothy J. Shideman, 86, of Whitehall and formerly of Clearwater, Fla., died May 21, 2015. She was the wife of the late George E. Shideman for 50 years.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late John Russell and Viola (Roberts) Harris.

She was a 1945 graduate of Frankford High School, Philadelphia. She attended Temple University and Palmer School, both in Philadelphia, and Emory University, Atlanta, Ga.

She was a secretary for the First Presbyterian Church and at Selfridge Air Force Base, both in Clemens, Mich.; Furchgott's and Jacksonville Blow Pipe, both in Jacksonville, Fla.; American Viscose Corporation and Temple University, both in Philadelphia; Clearwater Police Department and Trinity Presbyterian Church, both in Clearwater, Fla.; and St. Paul's United Methodiast Church, Largo, Fla. She was a clerk-typist for Keystone Readers Service and Insurance Companty of North America, both in Philadelphia; and as a part-time cashier for Winn Dixie Stores Inc., Key Largo, Fla. She retired in 2001.

She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha National Panhellenic Council. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Bryant of Whitehall and Janet E. Shideman and her cat Noah of Largo, Fla.; two grandsons, Thomas R. Jr. and his wife Denys Bryant of Bowers and Christopher M. Bryant of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, John Russell Jr. and his wife Mary Harris of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews; and beloved pets Dono Amore, Nasya Shimeka and Hope Faith.

She was predeceased by a sister, Alice Springman; a brother-in-law, Gene Springman; and a sister-in-law, Mary Harris.
