Gieske receives Golden Deeds award
Paul Gieske has been president of Northampton Exchange Club during his 41 years of membership and has held numerous committee and board positions. Now he can add the recipient of the coveted Golden Deeds award to his resume.
Gieske received the 2015 Golden Deeds award at the Exchange Club's dinner program May 13 at the Northampton Memorial Community Center, at which several former honorees attended.
After receiving a plaque for his achievement, Gieske then wrote his name in Book of Golden Deeds.
The Golden Deeds program began in 1977, paying tribute to individuals and organizations that made a contribution to and impact on the community.
Gieske is the 59th Golden Deeds recipient.
"Paul has been more than willing to help out any way he can. He has a big heart," Exchange Club President Rose Correll said.
Former president and member of the board of directors Dr. Rodger Berg said Gieske is the individual the club has often counted on, no matter the project. He added Gieske does not look for the spotlight; rather, he is comfortable just getting the job done behind the scene.
Borough Council President John Yurish said Gieske continues to work tirelessly for the club and its programs.
"You're doing a lot of good stuff," Yurish said to Gieske.
Spending his entire life in the Pennsville, Lehigh Township, area, after graduating from Northampton High School, Gieske enrolled in college to study geology; however, he found a love for art. He was later employed by Hess's Department Store, where he learned sign painting.
Gieske, after several years at Hess's, went into business on his own, opening Studio G in the the 1970s, which he continues to operate.
Gieske is active with the Kreidersville Covered Bridge Association and is a supporter of the Lehigh Township Historical Society.
