The Borough of Northampton is adding another parcel to its expanded park and recreation system.
The parcel is located at Fourth and Pearl streets and will be utilized for vehicle parking at the adjoining Fourth Street recreation site.
Borough council at its April 16 meeting adopted a resolution accepting an agreement of sale for the parcel from Joseph R. and Elizabeth Crock.
Leroy Brobst, assistant to the manager, said the appraisal for the property amounts to $40,000, the sale price for the land.
Council authorized borough Manager Gene Zarayko and council President John Yurish to proceed in executing the necessary documents that will transfer ownership of the tract to the borough.
Earlier council submitted a grant application to Northampton County under its open space program that would cover the costs by the borough for the land.
The Fourth Street Park & Playground includes a ball field, children's playground and pavilion.
Also during the meeting, Northampton Area Chamber of Commerce was granted permission to hold its annual historic street fair on the uptown section of Main Street Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Permission was also given to the Northampton Exchange Club to hold its annual coin toss this Saturday, May 9 on Held Drive. Proceeds benefit the club's Prevention of Child Abuse program.
AARP Chapter 3915 was approved by council to use the borough band shell June 17 for an event. The borough waived all fees.
