Ray W. Biondi

Ray W. Biondi, 97, of Lower Mac-ungie Township, died April 25, 2015, at the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Elaine (Canova) Biondi. They would have celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary May 15. Born in New Castle, he was the son of the late William A. and Jeanette (Dye) Biondi.

He attended Washington, D.C. schools and graduated from Southeastern University School of Law with an LLB degree. Upon graduation he entered the F.B.I. Academy and trained as a special agent. He served in Washington, D.C., Knoxville, Tenn., Norfolk, Va. and Philadelphia. In 1942, he was assigned to head the first Allentown F.B.I. office, becoming its first resident agent. After nine years as a special resident agent, he joined the Arbogast and Bastian Meat Packing Company in Allentown, retiring in 1984.

He served as director of purchasing and was a member of the board of directors. He served on the board of directors of the Purity Bacon Products, Salisbury, Md. and Calo Pet Foods, of Allentown.

He was a charter member and treasurer of the Allentown Jaycees. He was chairman of the Water Resources and the Manufacturers Division, while he served as vice-president of the Allentown Chamber of Commerce.

He served as a board member of the Swain School and was a past member of the Muhlenberg College Board of Associates. He was on the executive committee of the United Way and on the board of directors, as well as, the Lehigh County Homemakers Health Aid Services and the Junior Achievement of the Lehigh Valley. He served on the public affairs council of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce steering committee. He was a trustee of the Bastian Charitable Foundation and was a member of the former special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

He was a past member of the Livingston Club and a current member of Lehigh County Club.

He enjoyed bowling and golf in the past years and was always ready to have a singing session with his friends.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Nanette and her husband Paul Marsh, of Wrightsville; Walter and his wife Maria, of Port Ludlow, Wash., and Ray W., Jr. and his wife Susan, of Delta; stepsons, John Nobel and his wife Dorothy, of Vero Beach, Fla. and Tim Noble, of Zionsville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.

Services are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
