EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL
At the Emmaus Borough Council meeting April 20, it was announced the Health, Sanitation and Codes committee had a meeting with J.P. Mascaro and Sons to discuss the current trash pick-up.
Councilman Jeff Shubzda said Mascaro's representative was very cooperative and either had an answer for any questions the committee had or would look into issues the borough was encountering.
Shubzda said one of the biggest issues is thrown garbage cans. Mascaro's representative said the thrown trash cans are addressed each week before the garbage men go out and they are told to place them down and not throw them down. Also discussed was mixing trash and recycling.
Shubzda said the complaints Mascaro receive per week are 13, which are down from the previous hauler the borough had. These meetings between Mascaro and the Health, Sanitation and Codes committee will happen once a quarter.
Resolution 2015-13 was passed 7-0 which relates to the Fields at Indian Creek. Kay Builder came to the borough expressing concerns about when the emergency access bridge would need to be put in.
Representatives for the developer said they need a little more time to put it in based on financial reasons.
Kay Builder will have until either the 20th unit is built or it hits nine months. After the deadline, they will have six months to complete the bridge.
Council unanimously voted to hire Mockenhaupt Benefits Group for the borough's actuarial services. The borough was with Conrad Siegel for several years. They went with Mockenhaupt Benefits Group because the fees are lower, the firm specializes in municipal pension actuary and will be more accessible.
Council voted 6-1 in favor of having the Emmaus Community Pool closed Monday through Thursday starting from the first day of school for East Penn School District, which is Aug. 31, until Labor Day Sept. 7. Councilman Brian Holtzhafer was opposed.
Mayor Winfield Iobst declared April 24 as Arbor Day for the Emmaus Borough.
Megan Meinick was appointed to the Special Entertainment Commission with a term expiring April 7, 2017.
