Gazebo is delivered to Uptown Park

The first sign that Uptown Park is materializing has taken place.

A handsome Colonial-style gazebo has been moved to the site, located between a church and a coffee shop.

The white-trimmed gazebo, topped with a decorative steeple, was transported from Lancaster to the Main Street site recently.

Borough Manager Gene Zarayko recently said the opening of Uptown Park will depend much on the cooperation of the weather, noting the gazebo's delivery was delayed for some time because of the elements.

The land has been graded, and utility, electric, water and sewer lines have been laid.

With the gazebo on the back south end of the park, a small performing area will be created on the far north end. A retaining wall has already been erected.

Other enhancements include installation of fencing, signage and upright outdoor enhancements, with park benches. Shrubbery will be abundant in the park, and arborvitae will be planted on the park's outer edges.

It is likely that sod will be laid, Zarayko noted.

The park will share the grounds with the farmers' market.

The park evolved after the borough received a Monroe County gaming grant. Borough council capped the project at $105,000.
