Evan Chuss attains Eagle Scout designation

Evan Chuss of Moore Township has joined the ranks of the Scouting elite.

On Feb. 21, Evan received his Eagle Scout pin during a Court of Honor ceremony at Salem United Church of Christ, Moorestown.

Friends, family, troop members, Scout leaders and dignitaries attended the celebration.

He is the son of Donna and James Chuss.

Evan, 17, is a senior at Northampton Area High School and a member of Troop 50 of the Minsi Trails Council, led by James Chuss, Scoutmaster, and Charlie Bluder, committee chairman.

During his 12 years of Scouting, Evan completed National Youth Leadership training, became a member of the Order of the Arrow, participated in a high-adventure trip sailing in the Florida Keys for a week and held various troop leadership positions, including senior patrol leader.

Evan's Eagle Scout project included making renovations and upgrades at the Sayre Child Center in Bethlehem. Some of the renovations included painting an outdoor shed, painting storage cubbies and the cafeteria, stripping and waxing floors, replacing light fixtures and ceiling tiles, removing old playground equipment, delivering topsoil, mulching and planting grass. Evan's crew completed more than 840 man-hours of labor, and he raised more than $1,600 for the project.

Evan has held leadership positions outside of Scouting, including two years as president of the NAHS chapter of FBLA and regional president of FBLA, which includes 16 local high schools. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, National Business Honor Society, DECA and the debate team.

In addition, he has been recognized as the Northampton Exchange Club's Student of the Month for October 2014, earned the Keystone Leadership Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, participated in the DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta and has earned the privilege of participating in the Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference four years consecutively.

Evan is currently employed by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Premair Cleaning & Maintenance and plans to study business at either Drexel University, the University of Pittsburgh or Penn State in the fall of 2015.
