Businesses receive industrial waste surveys
Thirty-one businesses in Northampton Borough recently have been mailed an industrial waste survey from the Northampton Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The purpose of the survey is to track sewage usage. A similar survey was conducted in 2005. Councilman Keith Piescienski, public works and sewer chairman, reported at the April 2 council meeting that Scott Gillespie, sewer plant superintendent, also mailed a letter to Allen Township, informing the township the survey must be completed.
In other business, council was told the new water service installed at 19th Street and Laubach Avenue by the Northampton Borough Municipal Authority damaged the borough's sewer line. A borough public works department crew made the repairs.
Public works Supervisor Greg Morey said the Municipal Park restrooms have been fitted for spring and summer and should be open to the public shortly. The restrooms at Fourth and 26th streets should also be ready soon.
Borough Manager Gene Zarayko asked the public to tip the borough off as to potholes in Northampton.
"As I stated in the last report, this was a tough winter, causing a lot of damage to our streets," he said. "Our crew is trying to patch potholes boroughwide."
Volunteer borough firefighters, Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Sr. reported, replaced burned-out lights on the ladder fire truck and installed a new chrome cover on the siren that was damaged as a result of an accident.
The recreation center on Saturday, April 18, will hold a dance beginning at 3 p.m. for fourth- through sixth-grade children.
Council also granted permission to Charitable Enterprises of Lions District 14-K to utilize the 26th Street Playground large pavilion on June 14 for its All-Star Soccer Classic awards picnic. Council waived fees for use of the pavilion.
