Wall appointed to planners

Jack Wall attended the March 10 Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors meeting to introduce himself as a possible member to fill a vacancy on the planning commission.

At the March 24 meeting, he was appointed.

An ordinance to update an existing pension ordinance is being advertised.

Another ordinance will create lower speed limits on Cedar Drive, South Dogwood Road and Cypress Drive. The police have conducted speed studies on those roads and made the recommendations.

Two persons on last year's summer maintenance crew expressed the desire to return. An advertisement will request applications to fill a third position.

"We don't want to give up on the experienced persons," Supervisor Chair Darryl Snover said.

Some changes are being made in the recreation resolution. The recreation committee suggested reducing the percentage of players to 25 percent of a team to qualify as resident instead of the present 35 percent.

Use of the lights will be permitted from April 22 to July 18. Snover asked if the cost of lights is being covered.

Township Manager Alice Rehrig said it does not cover costs early in the season, but the costs are made up in the fall.

A new category will be created for commercial nonregistered teams.

Supervisor Sandy Hopkins said there are inconsistencies when the food stand has to be paid. Payment is now the end of the month for everyone.

Supervisor Keith Hantz said he does not understand why the board does not want to go to zero percent for residency. He said he thinks the adult team should pay $250 for the season because they are sponsored by businesses.

The issue was tabled.

There were no applicants for the recreation board. The position will be readvertised.

A letter of support was requested for a 35-mile trail that travels from Walnutport to Upper Mount Bethel. The northern tier townships are applying for a Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant for a feasibility study. From the information provided, the study will run at the base of the Blue Mountain.

One police vehicle needs extensive repairs. Chief Scott Fogel asked if the money could come from the contingency fund.

The board said funding should come from the police fund.
