Student rep gives report

Jacob Steidinger, student representative, provided his report March 18 to the Northwestern Lehigh School Board.

He said the five runs of "Damn Yankees" were a great ending to many senior high school drama careers.

The Science Olympiad team competed at the regional competition and placed first overall with medals in 14 of 23 events.

The team is eligible for state competition at Juniata College.

Permission to attend the April 24-25 overnight event was approved by the board and arrangements were made for a Bieber bus.

The blood drive at the school was successful.

At this time of year supplies often run low, Steidinger said.

The Interact club will have its yearly floor hockey tournament. Ten teams have registered so far.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used to purchase a shelter box containing supplies for a family following emergencies.

Steidinger said he has seen the 2015 yearbook cover which will be printed in glossy ink giving it a three-dimensional look.

In sports, he reported boys basketball came within two wins of qualifying for the district playoffs with a 9-13 overall record.

Girls basketball finished 14-7 and earned the Colonial League Silver Medal and a trip to the District XI semifinals for the second year.

Wrestling awards went to Matt Peters, District XI fifth and regional sixth place medals, and state qualifier; Bailey Wehr, District XI fifth place and regional qualifier; Quentin Bernhard, District XI silver, regional sixth and state qualifier; Jarrett White, District XI bronze, regional fifth place and state qualifer; Caleb Clymer, District XI champion, regional silver and state qualifier; Andrew Sorensen, District XI sixth and regional qualifier; and Alex Russo, District XI silver and regional qualifier.

Trey Shackleton competed as an independent swimmer and earned: District XI silver in 200 freestyle and state qualifier, District XI champion in 500 freestyle and state qualifier, PIAA silver in 500 freestyle, PIAA fourth in 200 freestyle and District XI McGinley award recipient for scoring the most points in district meet.

Steidinger also told the board spring sports are beginning indoors and the track and field team will travel to Northern Lehigh to practice on the all-weather surface stadium.
