Norman L. Hillegass Sr., 81, of Alburtis, died March 23, 2015, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Betty J. (Hoch) Hillegass. The couple would have celebrated 57 years of marriage Dec. 6. Born in Upper Milford Township, he was the son of the late Hiram and Louisa M. (Dries) Hillegass.
He was the owner and operator of the former Norm's Auto Repair, having opened the business originally in Wescosville in 1970 and eventually moving the business to Alburtis until retiring in 1999. Following retirement, he kept busy working part time as a shuttle driver for Lexus of the Lehigh Valley, operating his own lawn care service and cooking on the grille at Norm's Deli in Alburtis.
He was an avid hunter, loved woodworking and enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife and their dogs.
He is survived by his wife; children, Robert R. Rabe and his wife, Janet, of Orefield, Charlene J. and her husband, Roy Ritter, of New Tripoli, Norman L. and his wife, Sue, of Madawaska, Maine, Joseph C. Sup, of Tompkinsville, Ky., Dale R. and his wife, Andrea, of Alburtis, Gayla K. and her husband, Michael Stucky, of Albany, Ore., Donald R., of Adrian, W.Va. and Cindy M. Malacin and her husband, Dennis Daley, of Macungie; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Dolly Mindler. He was predeceased by a son, Michael in 2009.
Services 10:30 a.m. March 27, at the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus. A viewing will be held 7 to 9 p.m. March 26 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. March 27 in the funeral home.
